Recently, the first batch of new-generation 688Ah energy storage battery (hereinafter referred to as ES battery) cells jointly developed by CORNEX and CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive successfully rolled off the production line. This cooperation not only demonstrates the profound accumulation of both sides in the field of energy storage but also brings strong impetus to the high-quality development of the industry, propelling the energy storage industry to fully enter a new stage of the "double-six" era.
The "double-six" era means that the capacity of a single battery cell exceeds 600Ah and the energy storage system exceeds 6MWh. CORNEX 688Ah ES battery cell is a brand-new product developed specifically to meet the market demands of the "double-six" era. While increasing the capacity, it has achieved improvements in multiple aspects such as energy density, intrinsic safety, energy efficiency, and cost control, creating a new level in all-round battery cell performance.
High Density
The 688Ah ES battery cell innovatively adopts the design of the same side tabs and convex plate, which extremely compresses the space, releasing energy within a small space. By using high-density, high-gram-capacity, and high-efficiency LFP materials, and optimizing the stacking process, the energy density is effectively increased. The gravimetric energy density is nearly 200Wh/kg, and the volumetric energy density exceeds 430Wh/L, representing an 8% increase compared to the previous generation.
High Safety
The 688Ah ES battery cell uses high-safety and highly infiltrative electrolytes and double-sided ceramic separators, which in turn reduced side reactions and significantly improved thermal stability and wettability. Every automatic, digital, and intelligent production line has over 50 CCDs monitoring online, with more than 3,000 monitoring points, ensuring the safety of the manufacturing process. It follows a testing process that is more stringent than the national standards and has successfully passed rigorous tests such as needle penetration and thermal runaway, safeguarding the entire process.
From design, manufacturing to testing and verification, the intrinsic safety of the battery cell is ensured step by step, which helps to ensure the safe and stable operation of the ultra-large capacity 688Ah ES battery cell.
High Returns
Each 688Ah ES battery cell has a capacity of 2.2 kWh, a cycle life of 10,000 times, a lifetime of more than 20 years, and an energy conversion efficiency of 95%. It can be applied in fields such as industrial and commercial energy storage and large-scale energy storage. The 20-foot container equipped with these battery cells can achieve a leap in system energy from 5MWh to 6.9MWh. The floor space of the same-scale is reduced by 20%, effectively reducing the investment of the owners and the cost per kWh over the entire life cycle, and significantly increasing the returns on the investment of power plants. This provides strong support for large-scale and low-cost energy storage applications.
